A Jeep® Trail Rated® badge is found on all 4x4s that pass a series of grueling tests designed to prove off-road capability on the world's most demanding terrain.

Jeep® Commander has tremendous off-road performance when equipped with Quadra-Drive® II 4WD with Electronic Limited Slip Differentials (ELSDs).

There are five main categories of testing:

MPG
The 3.7L V6 engine has many features that help improve gas mileage, including:

• 9.6:1 compression ratio
• 58-PSI fuel injector system
• "Thick" wall composite low-restriction intake manifold

The 5.7L HEMI® V8 has many features for improved power and economy including:

• Two spark plugs per cylinder
• 9.8:1 compression ratio
• Better port flow
• Slant / squish combustion system design

The 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine features the economical Multi-Displacement System (MDS), which provides power and excellent MPG by deactivating four cylinders when eight are not needed. When cruising at highway speeds between 40 and 60 mph, MDS uses advanced computer technology and electronic throttle control to transform the HEMI® V8 seamlessly from V8 power to an efficient four-cylinder powerplant in 0.04 seconds. Chrysler estimates that since its inception of MDS in 2005, nearly 100 million gallons of gasoline have been saved, along with reduced carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions.

Off-Road Performance
You can expect to Go Anywhere, Do Anything™ in a Jeep® vehicle thanks to over 67 years of tried and true off-road craftsmanship.

There are three Trail Rated® 4WD systems to choose from, in addition to the standard two-wheel-drive system:

• Quadra-Drive® II
• Quadra-Trac II®
• Quadra-Trac I®

Front and rear Electronic Limited-Slip Differentials (ELSDs) in Quadra-Drive® II team up with the NV245 active transfer case and its electronically controlled clutch pack for awesome traction management.

You'll also find:

• Skid plate group
• Telescoping rear driveshaft that adjusts for small changes during normal suspension travel
• Gas tank location that allows the spare tire to be mounted under the vehicle

Powertrain
As capable as it is comfortable, as powerful as it is beautiful; Jeep® Commander combines the right amount of might with classic good looks. Choose from three available engines and let the torque tour begin.

Two transmissions are available:

1. Multi-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Range Select (ERS):

Towing
You already know that Jeep® Commander allows you to conquer any terrain. The Jeep Commander also has a healthy 7,400 pound towing capacity when properly equipped.

The Jeep Commander's available Trailer Sway Control (TSC) system helps reduce trailer sway and improves handling in adverse towing conditions caused by crosswinds and traffic.

TSC works with the Electronic Stability Control (ESP) and Antilock Brake System (ABS), alternating brake pressure to automatically correct oscillation in the vehicle trailer system.

TSC does not require any driver input. It automatically activates when needed. The ESP function lamp will flash when TSC is activated.

Handling
The Short- and Long-Arm (SLA) independent front suspension on Jeep® Commander provides a greater sense of precision and control.

The five-link rear-suspension geometry, including a track bar, helps match lateral stiffness to that of the front suspension for optimum handling.

Rack-and-pinion steering completes the package for precise steering with uncompromising off-road performance.

Warranty
We’re confident in our vehicles and we’re backing them with a new 5-year / 100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. The powertrain limited warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair a covered powertrain component – engine, transmission and drive system – on most new Dodge, Jeep® and Chrysler vehicles. Coverage now also includes free towing to the nearest Dodge, Jeep® or Chrysler dealer, if necessary. The warranty is transferable too, so if you sell your vehicle during the warranty period, the new owner will still be covered.

Plus, our 3-year / 36,000-mile Basic Limited Warranty provides bumper-to-bumper coverage for your vehicle, from the body to the electrical system.

Accident Avoidance
During extreme steering maneuvers, Electronic Stability Control1] (ESC) helps maintain control by sensing when the vehicle is starting to over-or understeer.

ESC automatically applies individual brakes or controls the throttle to help you stay safely on course. When you don't want the extra hand, ESC is specially tuned for performance handling so you can switch it off.

Other accident avoidance features include:

• Four-wheel disc Antilock Brake System (ABS)
• All-speed traction control, which applies brakes and transfers torque where needed
• Brake assist system, which applies maximum braking power during panic braking
• Three available four-wheel drive systems, which respond to wheel slippage and improve stability

Theft Deterrents
The remote keyless entry fob controls door and tailgate locks, and includes a panic alarm for extra security, putting both convenience and security at your fingertips.

The Sentry Key® engine immobilizer is a convenient feature that provides additional safety when entering the vehicle at night. Every Jeep® Commander key comes with a small embedded chip that, when inserted in the ignition, connects with the engine and allows it to start. If no connection is made, or another key is inserted, your Commander won't start.

An available alarm system deters would-be thieves from breaking into your Jeep Commander, keeping your personal items safe.

Accessing the rear cargo inside your Jeep Commander is easy. Simply press a button on your key fob, or on the overhead console, and the available power liftgate opens or closes automatically. The liftgate can also be closed with a button conveniently located in the rear cargo compartment.

Parking Assistance
For an added level of parking security, there's the ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera — a rearview camera that features an instrument-panel-mounted 6.5-inch diagonal screen, which shows a real-time view of what is behind your Commander.
